Hippocrates and Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic Care is the oldest approach to physical healing on earth. And science and history have come together as of late to celebrate and even encourage this ancient hands-on approach to medicine.
Why? Because science has weighed in and the conclusions are clear. Good chiropractic care contributes to overall wellness, and skilled chiropractors can still heal their patients after other therapies fail.
Consider that long before there were sterile surgeries and instant-gratification medications there were simply doctors. These doctors knew how to lay their hands on the sick and suffering and make them well again.
These were doctors who had no choice but to approach every ache and illness like detectives. They had to get to the heart of maladies and reverse, ease, erase. In other words, once upon a time doctors had to heal.
And no matter what advances we make scientifically on this planet, true healing must always remain the foundation of real medicine.
What Is Chiropractic Care?
“Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases.”
—Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, approximately 350 BC
Skilled chiropractors take a natural and drug-free approach to healing, but this is evidence-based. For example, the medical detectives from ancient times are the good chiropractors of today. It’s all about the investigation, the trial and error and ultimately the healing.
I know, based on patient outcomes, that in the right environment, pain conditions can be reversed. I know that creating the right environment for healing is still possible. I believe…I have seen the body remember wellness. What do I mean by that? Under the right conditions, your body will remember to behave as it has always behaved. This is the basis for healing pain, bringing the body back, essentially, to an earlier time.
A skilled chiropractor can ease the following pain conditions:
- Headaches
- Neck aches
- Shoulder aches
- Arm aches
- Wrist and hand aches
- Backaches
- Hip pain
- Leg pain
- Knee pain
- Ankle pain
- Foot pain
If you look at the above list closely, it starts at the head and ends at the feet.
So, in answer to the question: What is chiropractic care? The answer is a multi-pronged approach to healing pain across the body. It’s an understanding that the nervous system, essentially the spine and all its offshoots, dictates movement and influences pain. This is where true healing begins.
More simply, chiropractic care is about healing to relieve symptoms and restore health.
Science Weighs In On Chiropractic Care Outcomes
The Science of Chiropractic Care
In 2003, a comprehensive study revealed immediate and visible spinal muscle improvement via MRI following chiropractic adjustments.
In 2013, researchers found that chiropractic treatment is just as effective as invasive procedures for the treatment of herniated discs in the spine.
In 2017, one of the larger population studies on back pain (1700 patients) concluded that chiropractic manipulation benefits back pain. This study, published by the Journal of the American Medical Association, went on to recommend chiropractic therapy as a first line treatment for back pain above surgery. This news was soon published in TIME magazine.
In 2017, European researchers found that 72 percent of chiropractic patients reported sciatica pain improvement compared with 20 percent of patients utilizing other specialties.
The science just keeps coming, but for chiropractors none of this is news.
It’s just as Hippocrates said, “Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases.”
If the spine is the requisite for many diseases, than it only makes sense that the spine should also be the hub of healing for many diseases.
People Weigh In On Chiropractic Care
In the end, the way people feel following care is the true barometer of medicine and its effectiveness.
And people are realizing more and more that under the right conditions their bodies, specifically their pain, can be reversed. Through a more natural approach to care, life quality can be enhanced.
When you note that 40 to 50 percent of back surgeries fail, or when you discover that pills are not a cure, you have no choice but to reach for true healing.
Way back in 2002, the American Journal of Public Health published the results of an in-depth study, which concluded that patients are more satisfied under chiropractic care than general medical care.
Today, people are coming full circle. We don’t want preservatives. We want fresh. We don’t want additives. We want natural. We don’t want a pill. We want healing.
